The Fan Museum
The Fan Museum is the first to dedicate its exhibition to the history of fan making. The building housing the museum was built in 1721 and is known as a World Heritage Site in Greenwich. The Grade II* Listed building required refurbishment in preparation for its opening in 1991. Fitzpatrick were employed to carefully refurbish, restore and innovate the building to accommodate the museum as well as an orangery and a visitor’s garden, a workshop, caretakers quarters and two luxury apartments.
The sensitive architectural integrity provided challenging restrictions to the refurbishment works. Careful consideration and extensive communication with English Heritage took place to determine the most adequate approach in delivering the works whilst up-keeping the delicate historical architecture of the building.
